Tips to Keep Your Car’s Battery in Good Shape

Whether you drive a brand-new Porsche sports car or a luxury SUV that handles the road like a premium sports car, such as the 2018 Porsche Macan, it’s important to do whatever you can to keep your vehicle’s battery in good shape. If you remember, we talked about the signs that may indicate your battery is about to fail in a recent blog post. Now, it’s time to discuss some proactive things you can do to prolong the working life of your battery.

One of the easiest things you can do to extend the life of your battery is to turn off the electronic components in your vehicle at the same time you turn off your automobile. Certain things, including your car’s interior and exterior lights and its navigation system, can continue to draw power from your battery even after you turn your car off. To preserve your battery, turn these things off individually every time you turn your vehicle off for the day.

While you can’t avoid idling in traffic, you can avoid it in many other instances. Idling for too long can put stress on your battery so try to avoid idling whenever you can. If you must idle, try to limit your use of your electronic features as you do. Turning off as many of these features as possible will reduce the wear and tear your battery experiences.

You can help your battery last longer by bringing your car into our Indianapolis, IN Porsche service center whenever it’s due for some routine maintenance, too. Our factory-trained technicians can monitor your battery for any problems when you bring your car in regularly. They can also test your battery and remove any corrosion that builds up.
